bonym agony auntMy dear what you are being told is not entirely true. The phrase he "popped my cherry" comes from the rupturing or tearing of the hymen which covers the entrance to your vagina but your hymen may not necessarily be in tact just cos you are a virgin. Some women bleed the first time they have sex, others dont, each woman is different. Some women say it hurts, others say it doesnt. It really depends on the female. Sex doesnt always hurt, if you are not ready for it and not fully aroused it will hurt though. Just relax. xXx

Smiler agony auntHey there

hi sweetie, i completely agree with dr psych she is spot on with her advise as always, but just to add to it slightly, peer pressure about sex and stories to worry you about sex are all that your friends are trying to do if i were you i would stand your ground sweetie tell your friends that you are armed with the true facts regarding sex etc, so you know the stories they are telling are only trying to worry you and freak you out but as you know the truth their horror stories are wasted on you :o)

I hope my advise helped you out a little sweetie Good luck, if you ever need a friend to talk to or just some more advise don't hesitate to email me i'm always here for you ok... would like to hear from you again let me know how you get on ok..

You Take Care Sweetie X

Sometimes the hymen is actually already broken. This can happen because women are now more active. It can also happen because of using tampons. Regardless, you SHOULD make sure you are emotionally ready for sex. Sex IS something special and your first time is not something you want to look back on and regret.

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (10 June 2006):

DrPsych agony auntI am sure your friends have been telling you all sorts of gory stories. The thing that 'pops' is called a hymen which is a band of skin inside the vagina that breaks on first intercourse - sometimes it stings a bit, sometimes women bleed a little bit but usually it is not THAT horrendous. What is more important than the physical aspects is that you should be emotionally ready for sex. Sex is much nicer when you are with someone who loves and respects you.
