How soon after a missed period should you take a pregnancy test?

How long would you wait after a missed period to take a pregnancy test? I am not irregular, since I have started tracking my period 5 months ago it was always the same time 30 days apart. Yet I was supposed to start on Monday and still no period... I'm not on birth control. We were trying to get pregnant somewhat but thought it would take much, much longer as that is what I was told by my doctor. So we went off birth control thinking we would be pregnant in a year or longer, it would be quite a surprise if I were now. Anyway my questions are when should you take the pregnancy test to get the most accurate result? I was planning on waiting until the end of the week. I am still thinking I could be overreacting or late on my period for some other reason. I researched reasons and I think stress could be contributing to it being late. I just want to know what's going on as soon as possible.

Early this morning I peed and noticed I had blood. It was brown though, like it gets when I'm at the end of my period. I figured I started my period after all but I haven't bled again since this morning. I typically have a heavy flow and this was weird. Don't know what it means really. I've decided if I don't start a regular period by Friday/Saturday then I will take a test.

For best accuracy, test on the day you typically are expecting your period, or wait a day or 2 more if you don't want to keep buying expensive pregnancy tests. Good luck!

person12345 agony auntMany pregnancy tests can now tell you before your missed period, you have to read the back of the box to find out which ones.

It's only Tuesday now though, being one day late is rarely an indicator of anything at all. I'd wait until at least the end of the week, but you may be able to get results sooner. Make sure to use the first urine in the morning.

Honeypie agony auntI would wait 2 week and do the digital type pregnancy test. Some tests CAN tell you earlier though.
