AskEve agony aunt13-15 years is DEFINITELY too early AND it's illegal! Your body and mind still have a lot of growing and maturing to do or else you would never need to ask this question. Sex is a very intimate thing between 2 consenting adults and shouldn't be done just for the sake of saying "I've had sex!" Keep your virginity until you're at least the age of consent okay?

if you don't yet know why you bleed, you shouldn't be considering having sex.

candy00s agony auntI used to worry about this too. I dont think you can say there is a certain amount of time before you should take it to the next level. I do however think you need to be ready for a sexual relationship, make sure that you are fully comfortable with everything first.

id recommend that everything has been thought of - condoms or going on the pill.

Hope this helps you

A female reader, WeLoveMe United Kingdom +, writes (1 June 2007):

WeLoveMe agony auntYeah, you're still quite young by the sounds of things. First time sex is quite a big thing and it has to be with the right person, you shouldn't be asking if it's 'too early' or not because if it is with the right peron you'll already know when the time is right. Just be patient and don't rush into things.

As for bleeding on your first time, this isn't always the case. Some bleed some don't and even if you do it wouldnt be much, as compared to being on your period. The reason for bleeding is because the thin membrane across the opening of the vagina can be broken when penetrated, however some females are born without it, or it just breaks by itself, vigorous exercise, horse riding etc.

But i would warn you, if you go ahead with sex at such a young age you may end up regretting it, i dont want to nag. i've heard this lecture many times before but you must look after yourself and beware of the consequences. Make sure it's with someone you love!

Take care! x

A female reader, anonymous, writes (1 June 2007):

You wait until you are ready. The fact that your asking if there is a time frame means your not mature enough. Its not about a how long you are with someone as opposed to if you can deal with the consequences afterwards ei, getting pregnant, getting an STD ect, the emotional implication of your relationship and everything else.

Sex is something done between two people who love eachother yes, but it should only be done by those who can handle it. When I was 15 I had a a very steady partner for 2 years but we never had sex because i knew i wouldn't handle being pregnant and that was only 5 years ago. I have my education and a career now so i can easily care for a baby by myself. (if it didn't work with the father)

So before you do it you have to ask how would you cope with the consequences.
