A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok... I'm a bit tipsy so gimmie a break on spelling. So.. I started drinking about three months ago, about three or four times a month. But in the last couple weeks, I've drank every day. I don't know what classifies alcohol though. I don't drink until I'm drunk, I drink to my good point, which is usually low tipsy. When I first started drinking, the more I would drink, the more i would want to drink. But now I know my limit. So since I only get slightly tipsy.. or tsipy every day, that means I'm not an alcoholic, right? I just deon't know. Am i? How long of drinking 3-6 days a week does it take to be an acholic?

cnith agony auntI think your question is harder than you think.

Yes, you're an alcoholic. And yes, you should stop. But no, that's not the whole answer.

WHY are you drinking. What's the self destruction for? Where does it come from? What is it you're escaping?

No, I don't buy that "nothing" answer. Find out. Go talk to a counselor or start writing a journal. Something's going on. Why did you start drinking in the first place? Friends/Peers? OK, maybe... but something else is going on... you found a 'drug' to help you ease something.

Ease that, something, and I bet you won't need the drink anymore.

When I said I started about three months ago, three or four times a month, I meant three or four times a week.

Well if you think it's bad then stop, I mean if you're drinking to a low tipsy by yourself and I don't mean wine by your dinner, but beer randomly inside your house, then stop.

Alcoholism is when you need even just one drink to get you through the day. But you do sound like you're developing a serious problem, and you need to stop it now before you ruin your health. You need to stop it now, or you will become an alcoholic.

QuirkLady agony auntI think you can be an alcoholic after your first drink. To me, alcoholism isn't how many drinks you can drink, it's if you need alcohol to get through the day.
