A reader, anonymous, writes (7 June 2008):

I am of the opinion, there is a difference between when two people are being "in love" and when two people love each other.

To fall "in love" can happen very quickly, but to really get know each other and love each other takes more time.

However, most people first fall "in love" and from there the love starts growing and developing.

Good luck!

Uncle Sneaker agony auntIt can be instant.

Or it can take years.

You can see someone, work with someone, and feel very little for them - then meet them again years later after hardly thinking about them in between, and know immediately this is the one person you would really like to spend the rest of your life with.

That's what happened to me!

Love happens when it happens. There aren't any rules as to how long it takes, it's a natural experience and will happen when it wants.

Fiona xxx agony auntI believe love is a very gradual process, that gradually builds up. Yes there is some affection and being fond of the person at first sight. I am too level-headed to believe in love at first sight as such. Although a girl I know said that when we first met, all I did was talk about him he he. So you can say there are some feelings.

I would say over the months like 6 months or so love becomes more apparent. Especially once you have passed the length of other boyfiends. It will feel different.

I believe there is some love present within the first month, but over time the feelings deepen.
