just go to a women's clinic where you can be attended to by a female. All females including that doctor/nurse have experienced it. You can also ask to swab yourself.

A reader, anonymous, writes (12 December 2009):

Bacterial Vaginosis is not necessarily caused from having sex. Although it is can be caused because a woman's rectum is so close to her vagina, that either intercourse or not wiping front to back after elimination causes bacteria to get into the vagina and cause the problem.

Symptoms usually involve a sudden gush of fluid in your panties that is not urine and often has a foul smelling odor....I don't know that there is a test, but usually diagnosed from your symptoms and a simple examination with your ob/gyn will allow him to prescribe the proper medications to treat it.

You are a young woman now, you are going to have to get used to being examined and looked at down there, some day you may become pregnant, and you will need to get birth control if you are sexually active and need routine pap smears to detect any cancerous or pre cancerous cells. This is very important to a woman's overall health.

A female reader, pinktopaz United States +, writes (12 December 2009):

You don't want anyone looking at you? Well you'll need to get over it, because I'm guessing they would have to swab your cervix for that. Plus if you're sexually active anyway you should get a checkup yearly to make sure you don't have sti's or cancer...all which involve people looking at you, as well as checking your breats. It's really not a big deal considering your health is more important than modesty and plus, doctors look at multiple people all day everyday, so don't worry about it.
