im 25 and i look about 18/19! Also i have hardly any facial hair and rarely shave! Its annoying because i get asked for id, which is embarrasing, and people dont treat me with the respect i deserve just because of the way i look. Its so depressing and confidence sapping because i feel like everyones staring at me and noone my age wants to bother with me like they dont want to be seen out with 'a kid'. its alright for girls, they make themselves look older anyway, what am i supposed to do! ps i dont act like a kid at all and im probably more mature than any 25 year old which is cr'p. Its so demoralising!

Wild Thaing agony auntYou could hit a tanning salon and bake repeatedly until the wrinkled skin gives you the desired "older" look.

Really, if you are as mature as you claim to be you wouldn't be here whingeing about your boyish looks. Make it an issue and people will notice, and not in a good way. If your attitude comes through in your writing then I can only imagine how you turn people off when you project your self-loathing onto them.

I am so sick of peoples advice that "you'll love looking young one day" just cause everyone else fears aging and you'll be sitting pretty.

Image is so important as the outer representation of who you are. It is so frustrating to not look your age and even worse to know that you never will. Plus do you know how many times somebody who looks young hears that line. Do everyone who looks young a favor and STOP spouting that line to them!

Everyone does judge your character immediately on that and put you into a category. The only advice I have is to find people who take the time see you for who you really are without needing to feel they should judge you first. These people are few and far between because they are usually not insecure and not concerned with their own status in relation to others. They will see your looks after your personality.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (21 September 2007):

Hi,

I am 28 and look about 16, I got ID for buying a lottery ticket last week.

I dress well, in smart, trendy clothes and I do my hair and make up, but I have a young face and I am small in height.

It use to get me down, whenever I tell people my age they are so shocked and like never, your not 28, 16/17 at the most.

It does sometimes get me down, as a woman I am left feeling like a girl.

But I have come to see that in 10 years from now I am gonna love it. At least when I am 40 I will look 20 and that is a great thing.

Just think while everyone around you is starting to show the signs of getting old, your gonna have young hot girls still after you.

It is a blessing trust me

xx

leanne.od agony auntfirst of all, when you're 40 and still look 28, you'll be the one who is laughing!!

unfortunately asides from growing a beard (which if you don't get much facial hair woul prob take a long time) there's not alot you can do. i'm 20 and look about 12, i tried to but my nan cigerettes and got id'd. it's all about your confidence i suppose, it's not easy when you feel like your different but how do you dress? because that's a big factor, for example, tracksuit and trainers = teenager! smart jeans and shirt = 25!

i know it's difficult when i don't have the solution but try and make the most out of a bad situation. don't let it get down you down because we only have the looks that god gave us (what a cliche i know!)

Hey don't try and look older cos most people that are older than you are trying to look younger!! I'm 30 and 9/10 people tell me I look 21/22 and I'm delighted!!! Cos in 10 years time when I'm 40 hopefully I'll still look young and won't need to try and look younger!!!

Soon enough we'll all be old so just enjoy your self and life and live life to the fullest!!!
