Find something you'd like to try, or like to learn, or do. Join a gym, take cooking classes, adopt a cat from your local pet shelter. Get a part time job. There are a thousand things you can do alone or with a group of people.

Activities often help your mind to think about something else.
Things like walking your dog, doing dishes, cooking, reading, hiking ... etc, could help you focus on something else and therefore give you the "I can do stuff even when he's not here" feeling, also known as "Independence".

Go out with your friends, or read a book, or get a hobby.
just find something that you enjoy that takes up time.
