A female reader, LethalInjection-x United Kingdom +, writes (4 September 2007):

LethalInjection-x agony auntIt's difficult to really "find out" whether someone is lying without speaking to the guy you asked out about it.

If the boy you asked out said no, he most likely means it, afterall, if he really wanted to go out with you he would have said yes, unless of course he has other things on his mind or doesn't want a girlfriend at this moment in time.

If you get on well with the boy you asked out, why don't you try spending more time with him? If he gets on with you, even if he DID mean it when he said no, there's no harm in spending time together and it could help you build a stronger bond.

Maybe you could ask Josh to stop getting involved so much, and if he does carry on, you could try asking the boy you asked out if any of it's true; but only if you're confident you get on well, otherwise you could look like someone trying to wreck a friendship.

If it's all too complicated then move on.

Hope that helps, &good luck.
