A female United States age 41-50, *enny1979 writes:

I've been dating this guy for 9 months now. All he does is drink because he can't work after being hit by a car 4 years ago.

He never has hit me but does call me names like dumb bitch,etc..He now wants a care giver and gets mad when I don't help him put a shirt on or brush his teeth,etc..Even though he can do stuff like that

himself. My boyfriend just needs help in cooking cleaning,etc..cuz he can barely walk.

This guy lives with another guy who my boyfriend calls daddy. He gets mad when his "daddy" doesn't give him money,beer,etc..They also sleep in the same bed. My boyfriend also wants me with him 24/7 then gets mad when I don't or want to be him that long.

All his life, my boyfriend has had other men and he too has called him daddy. He recently had a "Mallory Weiss" tear in the lining of his stomach which in caused by heavy drinking. He was told to stop drnking or he won't live much longer but he won't.

What should I do?

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (6 April 2007):

DrPsych agony auntName calling is a form of emotional abuse and you deserve better. I understand this man maybe disabled but it doesnt make you his personal slave. As a caring person you should be trying to make him as independent as possible and therefore you should refuse to do trivial domestic tasks that he can manage himself. It sounds like he has become a victim of his disability and has some serious alcohol problems...I won't even go on about his relationship with the other man...you cannot fix this yourself and he needs professional help to quit the booze.
