A female reader, Gena Bullock United States +, writes (25 March 2008):

Gena Bullock agony auntLive and learn...we all go through these things. Embarrassing, YES. And if he tells folks, then he's immature and foolish. I like the idea of a boy giving me a mint or something like that if that happened. ITs mature and if you're smart, you'll take the hint from his gesture.

Of course, he didn't do that, so be aware of it in the future...gum, breath mints, flossing and brushing. Its the best way to be safe and worry free!

Don't beat yourself up about it......maybe you had something spicy or were getting a cold.....sinus infections do that too sometimes. Cheer up...it ain't the end of the world! Gena ;-)

A reader, anonymous, writes (25 March 2008):

I remember kissing a girl when I was about 13. She was absolutely gorgeous and it was a dream come true when we kissed. The only problem was that her teeth were almost green through lack of brushing and probably a fear of the dentist. Her breath would have shrivelled toenails. But boy! did she have a body or what?

I bought her a pack of Trebor Extra Strong Mints. Always closed my eyes when kissing after that and didn't see the colour of her teeth either, and her breath improved. I couoldn't afford to buy her a toothbrush or toothpaste, but might have done if I could have.

I didn't tell anyone about her breath. That would have been un-chivalrous! I think she got the hint though.

A male reader, kenny United Kingdom + , writes (25 March 2008):

kenny agony auntI think he sounds abit immature to me, i think he was out of order telling you that, espessially as you had just met. I think he wanted to make you feel small, and he certainly acomplished that. You should have followed it up with he has got really bad B.O. and see how he likes it. I think you can do better that someone like him, anyway you probably diden't have bad breath but there are a few thing's that you can do, like brush your teeth regularly, floss, gargle mouthwash, and if you are out chew some spearment gums.

All the best x

Floss your teeth as well as brushing and gargle a good mouthwash back to your tonsils. Old food gets trapped between your teeth and starts to smell. Also it does not harm to brush your tongue as well as the inside of your cheeks. Sometimes you can get creamy coloured spots on your tonsills which smell awful and they drop out after a while. Everyone has this problem sometime. You will probably catch a whiff of his socks soon!

A male reader, LazyGuy Netherlands +, writes (25 March 2008):

LazyGuy agony auntI had to smile, sorry, but that just happens. You will kiss with a big chunk of food stuck between your teeth, burp while tongueing, you will let out a fart when he is eating out and as for what happens during sex, well you are a bit to young for that.

Just wait till you wake up next to someone after you had a bit to drink. You look like an extra from a zombie movie.

But hey, we all go through this. Don't worry, someday you will laugh about it. When your 80.

If he tells other people, well tell them he sucked at kissing. If he has any decency he won't however.

Then honey, it's one of life's lessons. There's nothing you can do now, just ride out the embarassment! Remember chewing gum before next time, and make sure to brush your teeth too! It's just one of those things - if he does go round telling everyone, steer clear! He's immature!
