A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

okay so, i need help. i have a really over protective brother and it just so happens his best friend since like first grade has amazing blue eyes and i really like him. i have had dreams of marrying this kid and he sleeps over frequently. we havent done anything too sexual just cuddling but my brohter has been in the room at all times. my mom as caught us several times and i would go upstars to my room . he would then text me telling me to come down stairs. i have no idea if he likes me or doesnt or what i am supposed to do about it. it is also a problem that he is 3 years older then me. because he is my brothers best friend i luckily see him often but then again you cant really have a relationship with a brother. he treats me like a sister he is really overprotective of me and doesnt want me to go out with anyone. i cant tell if it is because he likes me or if it is because he is like a second older brother.

A reader, anonymous, writes (17 March 2007):

These situations can be difficult. It's possible he does not know exactly what his feelings are yet, either. Be cautious. He may just truly feel brotherly toward you now. You don't want to embarrass yourself or him. Three years difference can be a lot at your age. The fact that he is your brother's chum is a "problem" now. But in a while, it could be a plus. If "friend" decides it is something else besides "brotherly affection", then you should both talk it out with your big bro. He will then know his friend is not trying to do something behind his back. But be honest and aboveboard. You could not only ruin a good friendship, but cause other problems if you are not open and honest.
