Easiest way to go about stage fright is to remember you are all the more likely never gonna see these idiots again. So it really doesn't matter what they think.

Also lighting helps. When you have bright as lights shining in your eyes all night its so easy to pretend the audience isn't there. Like a force field.

Then again, I'm a theatre actor so thats just something I like doing.

Above all just play like rehearsal. You did it then, the only difference is the space before you isn't empty.

And I would be so much more worried if you weren't getting nervous before a gig. If you are a normal, and good performer, you will get nerves everytime you go on. Its all about sucking it up and not panicking cause panic helps no one.

Hope this helps.

Well the way to look at is you're not higher up then the crowed youre just playing music think of it back home when you would go to a show and see your friends playing in the band then you would get on the stage and play the music for them, thats nothing, right? And with missing your family..absence makes the heart grow fonder once you get out there your going to be busy and after wards very tired homesickness isn't going to be too terrible because you're going to have a lot on your mind right?

rcn agony auntyou need to realize their there to see you. not knowing them is sometimes better than knowing them. how do you feel about your bands performance as a whole? the problem some have is thinking they are being judged like on the shows as to their performance.

i think the first performance is difficult for most. have you ever heard of a band called "aerosmith"? Steve tyler, their lead singer says he still gets stage fright before going on stage, but the synergy of the crowd helps him to overcome all of it.

Just remember you were asked, or accepted to play at the club for a reason, and if you're band didn't catch the eyes of the club managers, you wouldn't be going there. Also keep in mind, music is fun above everything else. now it's time to bring it to a crowd and kick some A

Andy00 agony auntAhhh, a question I can definitely relate to. I'm a performing guitarist and vocalist, so I know the nervous feeling you are going through. Lets see if I can help.

What you gotta consider with your first problem is that you only really have two options; You either do it, or you don't, causing frustration and problems for people who have organized the event for you. EVERYBODY gets nervous when they have to perform. My FIRST proper performance; I was only 15, I was by myself, and it was in front of 200+ people. Fortunately, you are a little older and experienced, AND you won't be alone. You're in a band. You have people that will be with you all the way. You need to be strong together in order to ease the tension you'll all be feeling before your performance.

As far as touring goes, I don't have any experience of this, I'm afraid. I can only imagine the pressures of traveling around, and not seeing people you love. On the other hand, you're at a great age to be doing this: You don't have as much responsibility as you would if you were older. You don't have a relationship to keep strong, or children, or anything big enough to stop you touring. Enjoy it while it lasts! Also, think about it; you get to take a trip with your band. You're bound to have some good times! I envy you in some ways, for having such a cool opportunity.

All I can suggest is that you try to look on the bright side of things. I know it's something we should all do, but it will really help you, your confidence, and your fellow band members.

If you'd like to talk, feel free to message me, cos I'm sure we could have a decent conversation.

Take care

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (18 December 2007):

birdynumnums agony auntGood for You, chasing your dream!

#1. The most important thing is to not use alcohol or any substance, it will turn into a crutch. It will interfere with your skills. It will interfere with the moment! You want to remember being there with all the clarity that you can! Everyone is afraid of getting in front of people and putting themselves out there, so your fear is coming from a perfectly normal place. Remind yourself that they are all there to see you, they are happy to see you and none of them want you to fail, they all are there to have a great show and party! You are all in the same boat! You all want the same outcome. SO, the audience is WITH you. Or, try to picture them naked! If you are uptight, nothing wrong with pleasuring yourself beforehand either.

#2. This is something everyone goes through, whether they are going to University or moving for a new job. You sure have enough sources to stay in touch with all of them these days, texting, phone, IM-ing, Skype, e-mail! Maybe if there is one big show, you could encourage them to all be there, or try to encourage one friend or family member to be at EACH show, so there is always someone in the audience that you know.
