Girls: what pet names do you like?

A male Canada age 30-35, *urch writes:

So, I just started dating this girl and we've been texting a lot. I've called her "cute" a lot.

I've called past girlfriends "beautiful" and I know they like that, but it feels like just using those two words isn't enough. I mean, it would get repetitive eventually, right?

I've never called a girl "hot" I just don't think it's a particularly nice thing to say. Do girls like being called hot?

I also have a really strong apprehension towards the word "gorgeous". I don't like it. I don't want to use it.

So, what I'm asking is: What do you like to be called?

I absolutely despise babe, baby, babygirl or anything containing babe or baby.

My boyfriend calls me gorgeous or beautiful, and princess. Princess is my fave. :)

i HATE being called babe as it reminds me of Babe (the movie bout the pig), i love being called beautiful cus it makes you feel better about yourself, and i like honey and sweetheart. whatever you do dnt make it embarrassing or intimidating. later on in the relationship you might come up with pet-names that will bring meaning and humour.

I like being called something that has a meaning to me and my boyfriend. One word i hate is babe because he used to call every woman babe and so it didnt feel very special. Best way is to think up a little pet name that means something to the pair of you. My brother used to call all girls Bones. He said it was so he never got muddled with their names! So remember to call your girlfriend by her given name now and then. Just so she knows you remember it!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (3 May 2010):

Each girl, and each couple will be different. Pet names are usually something you two create for each other and they aren't necessarily the same in all couples. My boyfriend calls me hooker, it's a long inside joke we have. But I love it, other girls I'm sure would be greatly offended by it. It all depends on what you're comfortable with and what she likes, baby, babe, honey, sweetie, darling, are all classics and work well. Then there are the ones that drive me crazy like snookie pie, cutie pie, snookums, baby cakes, all make me sick haha. But that's just me.

Maybe try to find a name that doesn't necessarily have to do with her looks like beautiful, cute, and hot all do. What about her personality or her as a person do you like? And yes for the record the word "hot" can bug some girls but others will love it. Hot is more of a reference of sexual desire, "that girl is so hot i want to be with her" kind of things. Although all girls want to feel hot at some point, they want to know their boyfriend sexually desires them so once in a while telling her she looks hot IS a good thing. Oh that reminds me of some another classic, Foxy! ok i better stop i could go for days.

Aliceinunderland agony auntBeautiful is nice.

You could call her Sexy. In a playful way.

If you mean Pet names as in what you call her when you see her you could use:

Babe, Honey, Darling, Gorgeous ( Girls do like it to be fair ), Sexy, Sugar, Flower.

It doesn't really matter what you call her as long as she knows you love her :)
