Embarrassed by my older boyfriend!

Question - (28 September 2010) 3 Answers - (Newest, 12 October 2010)
A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I've been seeing a guy who is 16 years older than me for over a year, but I feel really ashamed. I dont want him to meet any of my family because I'm embarrassed of him, and the few people we have told are wondering why I am with him. It's making me doubt if I actually like him, and I dont really fancy him, so it's hard to explain why I like him. But the thought of breaking up with him feels terrible. I'm so confused!

sweetlove agony auntIf you feel he embarraces you, and you dont really like him, then it sounds to me like you dont want to be with him, You should go for something that makes you happy. But if you do want to be with him, think of the reason why you two first got together.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (29 September 2010):

You sound like your more afraid of being alone than anything. More like, you feel more secure saying you have a boyfriend, rather than being alone.

I dont think its fair of you to continue a relationship with someone that you feel this way about.

When youre in love, you want to yell it from the mountaintops, not be ashamed.

Let this man go, move on, and have the opportunity to find someone that will love him.

dirtball agony auntYou need to take some time and figure out why you're with him. If you can't find a reason, then you need to end it. It's time for some soul searching. I'd suggest a weekend getaway somewhere that you can be away from everyone and everything and get your thoughts together.
