 yup yup, go for it mate :)
be friendly and chatty, and you never know where it might lead. perhaps check out the convention earlier in the day and then offer to show some chicks that look lost around. try not to come onto anyone too hard or fast because thats a bit scary sometimes. just make some new friends and see where it goes!

Yeah, I think it would be a good place to meet someone with a shared interests. So long as you understand that there is more to the person than just shared hobbies. Though, obviously it makes a great ice breaker.
