Could I be pregnant if I made out with my boyfriend and later, after he`s gone home I might accidentally put a little sperm close to my vagina while I was sort of fingering myself?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (29 May 2010):

that depends on 1)where you are in your cycle, 2)how long afterwards it was, 3)if you put it inside of you or just outside, 4)how much it was. in pretty much that order. if you are inbetween your periods right now you are more fertile and therefore more likely to get pregnant. had the semen dried up or gone cold already it's not that likely. if you didn't put your fingers inside, less likely. and finally if it was a smaller amount it's less likely.

i don't think you should worry.

chigirl agony auntThis is very unspecific. You sort of fingered yourself? Either you did or you didn't. And you accidentally "put" sperm close to your vagina? Or did you on purpose take sperm on your finger and put it inside of yourself trying to get pregnant? If you were worried you might get pregnant why did you do this in the first place? You made out with your boyfriend, that doesn't necessarily mean there was sperm involved, how did you get a hold of his sperm?

Im sorry but this is too unspecific. But in essence, yes, sperm in vagina or even just very close does involve a risk of pregnancy. However, sperm outside of the body only lives for a few minutes, so unless you jumped at the sperm right away and took loads and put it in your vagina, there's a less than likely chance of pregnancy.

A female reader, person12345 United States +, writes (29 May 2010):

person12345 agony auntProbably not, but it depends. How much sperm and how long? If you had a tiny bit on your finger and fingered yourself hours later, then no. If you covered your fingers in it and then immediately stuck it in your vagina then yes. If the semen on your hands was dry then the sperm will die very quickly. So if you had a little tiny bit not even visible on your hands that was totally dry then you really don't need to worry. Especially if you didn't actually put your fingers inside your vagina, like if you only touched yourself on the outside. If you give a little more detail I can try to be more helpful, but I probably wouldn't worry.
