Hey everyone. I had a quick question. If two virgins have sex with each other for the first time and they have oral sex and all these other sexual stuff, is there any way you can get an STD? Me and my bf are both virgins and have never done anything sexual. If i give him oral sex, can i get an STD? Can he catch something from sex with me? Thanks :)

Illithid agony auntTechnically, if you're both virgins, completely innocent, then there's nothing to catch. But blood transfusions have infected people before, and even virgins can cheat on their partners, and even if no one gets sick it's still possible to get pregnant if you aren't careful. Make him wear a condom every time you have sex, no exceptions.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (19 April 2011):

chigirl agony auntHighly unlikely that you have any STI's without being aware of it. But like it has been mentioned, some things are easily caught, even if you aren't having direct sex. Accidental touching, rubbing, as a child or adult, things get spread. Highly unlikely, and you would probably be aware of it if you had anything, but there are no guarantees in life.

If you are both virgins, and you are on a hormonal form of contraceptive such as the pill, I think you will be safe without a condom on.

Only thing you should remember when you have sex without a condom is that you can get urinary tract infections, because of the exchange of bacteria. So pee after sex, and drink lots of orange or cranberry juice. Urinary tract infection typically gives a burning feeling when you pee and the feeling of needing to pee all the time, and strong pains in your urinary tract. Your pee will also be red, or have pieced of blood in it. But, don't be alarmed when you first have sex and go to use the bathroom and it stings. Having sex the first times can be painful, and make you sore down there, and when you get urine on the sore areas it will sting. So don't mix that with a possible UTI, a UTI will possibly come after a few days after sex if you get one, and it will include all the other symptoms.

The second thing that might happen, that is normal and not an STI, is to get a yeast infection. This is also a product of the exchange of bacteria, and easily treated by going to the pharmacy and buying medication for it, prescription free. If you get a yeast infection though I would advice you to see your doctor first just to make sure that is actually what you have. The medication for it will not do any damage, but it is best to know you are treating the problem correctly. A yeast infection will itch like there's no tomorrow. Nothing itches like a yeast infection. So if it starts to itch in your crotch, you most likely have a yeast infection.

A male reader, idoneitagain Australia +, writes (19 April 2011):

A virgin can have an std if they have engaged in other sexual activities other than penetration, which has resulted in the transmission of an infection. STD's can also be transmitted in non-sexual ways, for example AIDS can be transmitted via blood, though this is rare. The possibility of you having contracted an STD by some other means, and not knowing, is astronomically unlikely!

In the case where neither of you have an STD, it is not possible for you to transmit one. If you and your bf have never had any symptoms of any STD's, and haven't engaged in sexual activity, you are fine, but if you have any doubts you can get tested.

Well some STDs can be passed from mother to her child during conception and birth such as: syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B and genital herpes. A condom is always the safest option.
