I have a condom question....

I was having sex with my boyfriend, and I noticed that when he had pulled out, there was semen both in the end of the condom, but also some had appear to move down the shaft towards the base of the condom.

None appeared to have dripped out of the condom at the base, but I wondered if there was any risk in this?

Is this normal?

Any thoughts would be really helpful!

person12345 agony auntNo I don't think so. If any did come out the bottom it's still unlikely to get in you since the base of the condom usually doesn't go inside your vagina and if a lot came out, you'd smell it. A little movement down the condom happens sometimes and is not a cause for concern. Unless you saw it really close to the base, I wouldn't worry that it came out. If it was less than 72 hours ago, you can take plan b if you're nervous.

person12345 - I didn't notice that any had actually spilled out, and I don't think I smelled anything on me when I cleaned up.

I am really having a minor panic now. Do you think there is a high chance I could be pregnant?

person12345 agony auntWell I wasn't really looking so it was really more smelled it when I went to clean up... It's best just to avoid letting it get to the base of the condom by having him stop thrusting and you should stop moving around as well, as soon as he's done ejaculating. Also ease up with your PC muscles.

Thank you! Yes we do all the proper pinching the tip etc, so it wasnt that there wasnt enough room at the tip.

Its just not something ive noticed before, and when I spotted it I did have a little panic. Nothing appeared to have got right out of the condom, but I havent looked in the past...... its now made me a little paranoid!

I'm glad that a little movement is normal

person12345 - did you see that the cum had spilled out of the condom? Because It hadn't got that far down, and there was no obvious sign?

And yes, Danielpew, I was on top! :D

A female reader, pinktopaz United States +, writes (17 April 2012):

The problem could be, is he's not leaving room at the tip, resulting in his semen to drip toward the base. When a man puts on a condom, when he starts at the tip of the penis, he is supposed to pinch the tip of the condom to remove air, then roll it on the rest of the way. If he is not leaving that extra room at the tip by pinching it, it does not leave a reservoire for his semen to go to.

A female reader, person12345 United States +, writes (17 April 2012):

person12345 agony auntA small amount of movement is normal, like below the head of his penis, but if it's all the way at the base that's not normal. Unless it was actually pushed out the bottom it can't get you pregnant from there, but if it's near the bottom there's always a chance it could be pushed out and get you pregnant.

To prevent this make sure he stops moving as soon as he's done ejaculating. He cannot keep thrusting at all once he's done or he can push it out the bottom. He needs to pull out ASAP when he's done. If you want to continue having sex after he's ejaculated, even just 30 more seconds, he needs to get a new condom. I've have to take plan B just because of 10 seconds more after he'd ejaculated.

Danielepew agony auntIn simple terms:

The semen moving is normal.

If semen gets into your body, then you might get pregnant. If it didn't, then you won't.
