Because I would have ovulated and even if I am not pregnant is it safe to carry on having unprotected sex?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok well a long story short I came off the pill [that I was on for about 2 years] to start using comdoms with my boyfriend [who I've been with for over 2 years]. But the problem is we keep having unprotected sex because we are still in the habit of having sex whenever we feel like it - totally forgetting the condoms.

whenever we didn't use them I just thought 'I won't be a teenage mum - it will never happen to me'. I know we're silly but now I'm late for my period [around 2 weeks] and don't have any pregnancy symptoms or symptoms for coming back on my period.

I'm too scared to go take a test because my mum knows everyone who works at the shops/pharmacies for me to go get one. I know she'll find out if I do and I don't want to go to the Doctors because I'm not sure if I am.

Well I am going to my friends party next weekend [her parents are going away] and obviously they will have alchol. Is it a really bad idea to drink alchol [possibly get drunk as I'm a light weight and it doesn't take much] when theres a chance I'm pregnant [although it's very low]. Because if I am pregnant I will keep it but I don't want to harm the baby.

I'm scared and confused. When would my stomach start to get hard - I heard that your stomach gets hard before you start showing.

Also 1 last question - because I would have ovulated and even if I am not pregnant is it safe to carry on having unprotected sex? because my period hasn't come on yet. I know I sound very stupid but my mum has already made it perfectly clear if I ever got pregnant before I get married she'll make me abort it and my boyfriend will leave me when I know he won't.

A reader, anonymous, writes (6 September 2007):

Well if you think you might be pregnant then you must not drink. You're playing with the health of your unborn child by doing that.

Obviously you shouldn't carry on having unprotected sex. Even if you're not pregnant now then by having unprotected sex you probably will be, regardless of what part of your cycle you are at, you can get pregnant almost always during it.

You need to take a test, there's no way that your mum knows every single person who works in every single pharmacy in your entire town. Get a friend to get one for if it makes it easier.
