A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend of a year broke up with me last night. We had a fight and basically we didnt speak for a few days then i got a text telling me it was over. It seemed out of the blue because we are crazy about each other and my friends thought that it may be that he thought it was over already and thats why he broke up with me-anyway tearful texts were exchanged and i told me i didnt want to break up-he told me he was confused and was hurt himself and we agreed to meet up. Do you think theres hope for us? I really didnt want to break up.

There is no hope unless you can sit down rationally and speak to each other about the problems you are having. This means both of you need to open up, and both of you need to listen, and take the criticism that will no doubt come out. Unless you are willing to listen to each other and compromise, this will go nowhere. Also, if this was just one argument and he was this quick to call it quits, then you need to ensure that he is committed to you. In a relationship, you cannot have the good without the bad. You need to be able to take both, and understand both. So you both need to sit down and get talking. Unless you can resolve this one issue now, without resorting to fighting, you will not be able to move forward.

No! No!

You are just prolonging the pain. You will get back together if you want but it will only last a short time!
