A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi... I'm 13 years old, and I'm only here to ask this one question.

I was told today that you can 'break your hymen' and i've been told too many things, and I'm not sure what is the truth..

Please, will someone explain to me... how do you break it, where it is, and how painful it will be?

I'm keeping answers for the future, by the way, so don't think I'm going to have sex after I get an answer..

Your hymen is a thin layer of skin in your vagina. It can be broken by wearing tampons, sex, or activities like riding bikes, horse back riding, etc. Once it's broken though, it doesn't hurt to have sex or be fingered. You do bleed when it breaks though, not a lot but you will bleed some.

Olivia(Y). agony auntYour hymen is a small layer of skin in your vagina.

This can be broken by tampons, fingering, exercise and sexual intercorse.

Some girls say it hurts alot when it bleeds and they experience some blood but others say that they don't feel it and didn't bleed. It vairies from girl to girl.

When you have sex, if you hymen isn't broken you might feel a sharp pain to start with, this is the hymen tearing and the thicker it is the more likely it is to hurt.

I wouldn't worry about it. All girls hymen will experience it. If it does hurt the pain shouldn't last that long.

kellyxxx agony auntYou hymen is located inside the vagina. The hymen can be broken in many ways, sex, sports, excersize.... The pain will vary from person to person, m and my friends didn't feel anything and did not bleed after it, but I have heard of people who have broken it and it hurt a little, and there may been a few spots of blood. When you do have sex or break your hymen, its nothing to worry about! The pain, if any, won't last long and won't be too painful! The most important thing to do it make sure you are relaxed when you are with a sexual partner, this makes everything go a lot easier. X
