To be honest, while anal sex does not need to be painful, in order for it not to be painful both partners have to be veeerrrrrrrrrrry patient. As in, you sort of have to start weeks before you actually do it.
I was a teenage boy once, and to be honest I do not think guys that young are capable of the amount of patience needed.
If this is something *you* are interested in, say, in your 20s, go for it when you get there. And it never hurts to read up and be educated about things.
But at 15? At 17? Personally I'd say no way. You really need a very skilled and patient partner to pull that off.
(For example, in my opinion asking to have anal sex - if done as a request rather just mentioning a general interest - implies that he would basically like to just go ahead and do it. Without building up to it over time. With someone who has never done it. That tells me he doesn't know what he is doing, and would hurt you, whether he intends to or not.)
Educate yourself, play with a finger or two in that area on your own if you want to see what it is like, but really don't jump into something as potential painful as anal sex with a partner at your age. It will almost certainly turn you off on the whole thing for a long time to come.

 It can be painful the first time, but it depends on how rough he is with you.
Use plenty of lube and make sure you tell him if it starts to become painful, because you don't wanna injure yourself.
It might be better if he used his fingers first, just to get you used to the feeling, and get you relaxed. Try this before actually having anal sex because it will help.
Also, remember to wear a condom and change it before going near the vaginal too.

You have your whole life to have sex... I know that you have the urge, and it can drive you crazy... but, some of the consequences are severe and no young person of 13, 14, or 15 is ready to deal with them. Enjoy the things that you should be enjoying at this stage of your life.
To answer your question, anal sex is potentially very painful physically. I can't tell you from experience, but the anal sphincter was designed by nature to release waste, not accommodate something as big as a penis.
Man just thinking about it hurts.
(I would NOT condemn someone for being gay, however... not to get off on a tangent)
