A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Why is it that I love the smell of my boyfriend? Any other guy I just don't like how they smell, but when I smell my boyfriend or smell his scent faintly near by it just puts me on cloud nine. I have never been like this with any other boyfriend or guy friend or crush strictly just him. Why is this? I find this strange and just had to ask sorry.

A reader, anonymous, writes (7 July 2009):

Omg, I had goosebumps when i read Satindesire's answer. I already broke up with my ex a few months ago but the one thing I really miss of him is nothing but his smell. I was supposed to post this question too.

Why is that? I asked him not to use any perfume as I LOOOVVEE his smell so much and that's one reason why I am sad whenever I go to sleep because even in my blanket I can smell him. And we've broken up. Really there's something in his shirt and on his skin that makes me want to just smell him the whole time. He just laughs at what i do and just let me smell him as much as I want to.

I think we have an explanation to this now. Thanks for posting it.

LazyGuy agony auntSmell is about association. You like his smell because you associate it with him. Horses smell of dung and sweat yet people who love horses like the smell because they love horses.

Totally normal and wonderful! It's called pheromones and they are amazing things. It's a chemical way of finding a mate. In nature when two people have genetically different immune systems it puts them in a better position to fight diseases. Pheromones are the way of detecting this. Basically it means genetically you two are a good fit. Me and my boyfriend are like this too. We love the scents of each other, especially unwashed hair and when we sweat a lot. It's rare so enjoy it!
