 It's possible he didn't lie. He could have gone to your school but transferred later. You can talk about your experience in college and see what he has to say. If he really went to your school he should be able to relate things that are familiar to you.
I couldn't be with a person who lies about something so simple. If there is a reason he lied it's probably because he wants you to find things in common together, to create a better rapport. Lying about this makes him not serious, and makes it seem like he's only in for short term gains.
