Yes, it is pretty normal. Mine is also darker in the beginning, and then goes bright red, and then goes dark again until i'm finished. I agree with Scythe. If it really bothers you, just go see your GP.

 I think it's normal... my period is red for the first few days then goes brown towards the end. Every one is different. See your doctor if it really bothers you :)
