 Just be happy and smile a lot. Try to take his mind off of things by going out for a nice walk, or baking him some cookies. I know it sounds corny, but it really works.
I have reservations about you using sex as a tool to "make him happy". You should be all he needs to be happy. You should want him to see you as a person who's company he enjoys, not just as something he can use as a quick pick me up when he fails a test or stubs his toe.
