Purple was huge on the catwalks in Paris London and Milan, as were checks and tartan.
Have a wander round the shops, find the dress you want, then get on ebay and find a similar one for a lot less money.

for home coming you can shose to wear whatever you want. Most people stay inbetween prom dress styles and like sun dresses.
Generally, they're about kneww length but a little more sophisticated, or formal.
A good place to go looking for a dress is at a department store at a local mall. Most of the dresses they'll have in stock will be for homecoming, seeing as how it's homecoming season, and they can make a lot of money.
