 It basically means that a guy was in love with a girl who was his friend and always went to him for comfort and advice. He would be a shoulder for her to cry on when she was hurting, and when he'd give her advice, she'd neglect it and make the same mistakes over and over again. When he'd tell her to stay away from a certain type of guy or situation, she would ignore his advice and do it anyway. Eventually he became tired of her foolish and naive ways and learned to hate her because she refused to change how how she behaved.
