A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello, I am 23 years old and I don't like having hair down there so I usually remove all of it via a hair removal cream if I am going to be with a guy. However, I am seeing a guy from Spain and I heard that they don't mind pubic hair, in face some like it. Should I leave some there? What do European men think about this? Thanks in advance!

We -speaking broadly and generalizing grossly, of course- are definitely less 'hair removal' obsessed than Americans seem to be. Men here are sometimes made fun of for removing hair from their legs {I've witnessed this myself}, as hair is definitely seen as a sign of virility and of being 'of age'. Of course, women are treated differently where legs/arms etc are concerned, but none of my friends go further than waxing their bikini lines and trimming down there- neither do I. First off, it's way too painful for my tastes and second off, I don't really see why I should do so either. A completely bare sexual organ doesn't feel like it belongs on an adult, but on a child rather, to me- thus it's pretty much a turn off. Of course, there's a difference between a well kept, trimmed etc. genital area and a completely natural one- personally I opt for the middle ground. Less pain, less money, less chance of getting rashes- makes your life easier, really.

Surely, this trend is being pushed by the media because it's a big money making machine, preying on people's physical insecurities to be otherwise not desirable- same as tanning pale skins. Of course, you do what makes you feel at ease with yourself, so if you wish to remove everything, then by all means do so! Personally, I would just wonder whether this preference of yours is really something YOU like better, or what you think OTHERS will like better.

Tisha-1 agony auntI blame Hugh Hefner, CindyCares. He and the other magazine publishers like him made pubic hair into a taboo. Then the razor and hair removal companies reinforce that here every day. Sigh.

OP (original poster), do what makes YOU feel comfortable. When you are with the right guy, he'll approve.

The thing that ooks me out about the hairless trend is that prepubescent girls and boys are hairless. Sexually mature women and men have hair. So why this trend to look prepubescent? I don't know, but the thought ain't pretty.

Honeypie agony auntI agree with Cindy!

Europeans are a lot braver and less grooming crazy. Usually most girls will remove the hair that might poke out of a bikini and maybe a little more, but having pubic hairs is considered normal.

If YOU prefer to be nude, then go with nude. If he rather you grow a bush.. well that shouldn't take that long either lol.

A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (14 June 2012):

CindyCares agony aunt Being from Italy ( similar culture ) I had my idea , but to be more scientific I compared notes with my friend Conchita from Madrid :

Yes, Europeans are definitely less paranoid about pubic hair than US guys. While it's true that the number of full, natural bushes has gone steadily decreasing and more and more from the younger generations have adopted the habit of pubic shaving / trimming , it surely won't be some hair down there that will break the deal or spoil the mood .

In fact, my friend disadvises going all bare, it's seen as a bit ... how 's the word ? " Bridge and Tunnel " ? "Chav " ? Well, not very classy . A nice trim will be enough.

What's with Americans and pubic hair btw ? Don't get me wrong, I think disposing of pubic hair makes sense , I do it too. But , it's not that women who don't are dirty or disgusting, is it ?

5 or 6 years ago I went with an American friend to see " The Dreamers " by Bernardo Bertolucci . The story plot takes place in Paris , late 60's. Full frontal nude of Eva Green . ( If you don't remember her, just go Google her and tell me if she isn't absolutely stunning and awesome ). My friends starts grumbling and making disapproval noises and finally explodes in " Eeeeeew . What's that, that's horrible, disgusting ! " I'm like, what ? Eva Green nude is horrible ? What are you , gay ? blind ? insane ?... The thing is, this guy , All-American boy born early 70's , had never ever seen in his life anything but fully shaven prepped sanitized pubes, and the actress' 60's style full bush totally SCARED him. I think ,in this field , Europeans are braver :)
