If you are concerned just pop along to your GP. You can go on your own the GP can easily take a urine sample or swab just to check for any infection or thrush & as the other posters have mentioned, if there is any infection it can be easily & quickly treated. Also the treatment will be free for you including any prescription because you are under 16.

Generally, once you have excluded the possibility of any infection etc .. your post doesn't say how often you shower & whether do you lots of sports & whether you are having regular periods etc .. but the vagina is a sexual organ and it does smell different at certain times of the month. Also you do sweat around that area, even just when walking around. I find when I have a shower I like to rinse myself there thoroughly with water & that helps me to stay fresh. Try to use soaps that are not over perfumed - simple soap is a good one. I find that putting a bit of olive oil on myself whilst in the shower can help, as it neuralises the ph - I don't put it inside, just around the area then shower over it with water.

As you are going through puberty you will smell stronger sometimes and then when it all settles down the smell should be milder. Throughout the month the smell could vary from metallic to creamy to just neutral. Shower every day, at least once, preferably twice especially if doing sports or rushing about all day. Don't oversoap as overwashing can also cause the ph to become inbalanced and you could smell more funny enough! Also drying yourself thoroughly after washing can prevent dampness which can lead to smells etc ... For thrush, you can put natural yoghurt on yourself and this helps but speak to your GP first. ALso diet/what we eat, can affect our body odour and drinking enough water is always a good idea.

Hope this helps. It is probably a good idea to see the GP or practice nurse anyway as they can give good tips and advice re feminine health and hygiene. Take care x

its proberly nothing to panic about.

all us girls go through a stage where we go a bit smelly.

it'll pass its just a matter of letting nature take its course, you can however minimize the smell by buying some "intimate wipes" or scented toilet tissue (like wet wipes) take plenty of non-soapy baths.

and apply plenty of purfume or spray but dont put it enywhere near your vagina just under arms and that.

it'll go soon. x

greg290352 agony auntHi - Sounds like a Thrush [Candida] infection. Very common and easily cured. Often develops if you have had a course of antibiotics. Go to your doctor as things will be totally confidential.

It might be that you have an infection. So it is worth talking to the doctor. You're in Britain, so you can go to the doctor entirely confidentially, and your parents dont' have to know a thing.

A female reader, meg2989 United States +, writes (10 January 2010):

meg2989 agony auntWhen you bathe, do you make sure that you really clean yourself? Sometimes just showering doesn't really clean your private area well enough. If you are having trouble try bathing yourself in a tub. Or it could be that you do need to see a doctor to deal with this problem. I know you would need to go with your parents to check in, because you are a minor, but you can always ask your parents to leave the room when you are actually talking to your doctor. If anyone asks why you are seeing the doctor, tell then its a private matter that you only wish to talk about with your doctor. If they insist then state again that its a private matter and you don't wish to give out personal information to anyone other than your doctor. But you wouldn't want to go to any doctor you would want to see an OBGYN, they specialize in the vaginal region, sexual heath, and the reproductive system. I hope that helps! Best wishes and good luck.

Hi look dont worry itis probably bacterial vaginosis which can be caused by chnging your washing powder or putting to much chemicals in your bath, the doc will check you over to see if you have it then prescribe you some antibiotics, also it could just be the time of the month assuming you have started your periods,i know that when i am due on i smell abit stronger than usual. hope this helps x

Hi it could be bacterial vaginosis, this isnt a disease of any kind so there is no need to worry,go to the docs yourself you do not need an adult, the doc will give you a course of antibiotics. You may not have this though it could just be that its nearing the time of the month i know i smell particularly strong around those times of the month so dont worry.
