A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Rightio, I was with his guy for a few months, met over the net, he was lovely, but in the end it didn't work out, one of the main reasons being that he was just in it for my money, like, we'd go into town for a look about and he's be like "I need this, I need that, I have to get some..." and so on, but expecting me to pay for it, he left me paying for his half of what a hotel cost us for a week, paying for all his food, paying for all this travel fairs, I ended up paying for his new phone, I think he may have sold a phone which I kindly gave to him, which was worth about £80, I think in total he managed to get atleast £500+. Now he said he'd have £300 back to me at the beginning of the month, but he's now deciding to spend his money on this new girl. What I want to know is there anything I can do by law to get my money back? Under british law that is? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

hmmm my niece has just spent two moths worth of rent of the last few months on a guy - topping up his phone so he could phone her! (stupid cow!) sigh reckon about £700.

I don't think there is a way to get it back. Would be seen as gifts. Anyway you have realised some very very valuable life experience at worst.

Unfortunately, you didn't tell him it was a loan, you have nothing in writing and under British law there is no protection if you choose to give your money away.

Same as if you threw a lot of £30 notes in the air in the high street. People can't be done for theft for picking them up.

You just have to accept that you were a bit foolish to spend so much money on a man and chalk it up to experience. We've all done stupid things, and all you can do is accept it and move on and learn from it.

Ask yourself why you didn't have the confidence when you got to the till to say "hang on, why am I paying for this and not you?"

Good Luck!! xx
