A female United Kingdom, anonymous writes:

This is soooo bizarre and ive been going out of mind wiv worry today. Basically, I went to the sex clinic on Friday to get tested for STI's. I have only had 1 sexual partner (my ex) in the last year and before him I had got tested and was all clear. Recently I noticed I was spotting slightly between periods, and last week I had a pain in my lower abdomen which felt like I was about to come on, but it was 2 weeks until my period. So I decided to get myself checked out.

Anyway, the doctor took a vaginal swab and told me afterwards that she had found some pus cells which indicated infection. She had to send the swab to the main laboratory for diagnosis on everything I had been tested for, but she was sure I had an infection, she didnt say which, and gave me a single course of antibiotics to take straight away. She told me to ring the clinic on 13th May for my results. I was also advised to inform all sexual partners of the last year. This is where the trouble starts.

I told my ex and suggested he get checked. As he was my only sexual partner over the last year, and I had been given the all clear before him, I naturally assumed he had given it ot me. Unfortunately for him, he has just started going out wiv a girl who he has fallen for big time and I told him he would have to tell her (theyve started sleeping together). This has caused a big row and I think they may have even split up.

But today, I decided to ring for my results even though its too early. I was very suprised when the receptionist said I was all clear on everything, even tho the doc said that she was sure I had an infection. Now Im too scared to tell my ex Im all clear as he will think I did all this to split him and his gf up. Im so angry that they told me I had something, then I get a negative result . How is this possible? and if I keep my mouth shut and not tell my ex, his results may come back clear and he will think that I had the infection and that I had slept around. I dont know wot to do!!!! I did tell my sis and she said that as I rang early, perhaps the receptionist made a mistake and gave me last years tests results, as I wasnt supposed to ring until 13th. Could this be possible?
