We haven't communicate that much lately, so he sending that note to me makes me wonder if it's a light way of him wanting to know about me. I felt it friendly but at the same time chilled out. So, my question really is actually seeing me as another pal of his or considered me as before.
Idk if sense the mail cold or intimate as to when you say this to a very close friend that doesn't need to much blah, blah anymore?

 To me it just sounds like he wanted to know how you were. You are over-analyzing to the extreme. But what is your question really, if he likes you? That just sounds like normal conversation. I don't know if he likes you or thinks of you as a friend, but it just sounds like any conversation you can have with anyone. Sorry I couldn't help you out much, I don't think I fully understand what you are asking.
