A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Yesterday i took two pregnancy test's and they both came out positive. I haven't come on my period since the middle to the end off February.

I have poly cystic ovaries but for the last few months i have been coming on roughly at the same time and i have been having proper periods with normal to heavy flows.

This is the first time in a while that i haven't come on like recently. It's not unusual for me not come on my period for a long while. The longest one i missed was about 3 months but like i said (poly cystic ovaries).

Any how, my boyfriend is CONVINCED that i am pregnant and the doctor said he thought i was as well. Theirs only one problem.... and that's me!! i really don't feel pregnant and definitely don't think i am. I'm worried that i'm having one of those phantom pregnancy.

It's all to much to cope with because my boyfriend thinks I'm pregnant and i can't cope with thinking i am pregnant when i might not even be....

SO PLEASE HELP ME!!

When i lost my last one, it was unplanned but was quite sad about it all the same.

Then me and my boyfriend planned to have a baby because i was sad about what had happened.

The strange thing was that as soon as i planned the feeling went away that i wanted to become a parent. I was recently about to go on the contraception pill after 2 years of been on nothing and this happens.

I think that I'm scared of growing up properly now. So I'm really scared about it all. I'm still very much in denial i have just realized but i think that two test can't be wrong. I'm still going to do a 3rd one.

I have worried a little bit that it's all going to be ok though (health wise) thanks for your comments

I think i will berlive it fully when i have to get a scan done.

A female reader, wonderingcat United Kingdom +, writes (7 April 2009):

wonderingcat agony auntThe phrase "feeling" is "subjective" and cannot be quantified nor proven by hard evidence, while "pregnancy" can be medically proven.

So as a previous anon poster said, this feeling of not being pregnant could stem from your anxiety (since you had a miscarriage before) and therefore a self-defense mechanism you subconsciously built. Medically speaking however, if your pregnancy goes well and all hormones are balanced so to speak, and your health is in top shape, the only time you "feel" pregnant is when you notice you are gaining weight, or when your baby starts moving (kicking), and when your baby has grown so much it starts to press into other organs in your body (hence the shortness of breath, the urge to pee etc etc)

So if your third test, and your ob/gyn tells you that you are pregnant, then you are indeed pregnant. Congratulations! I hope it all goes well this time. But if you are worried, just make sure that you make frequent and regular visits to your doctor. Doctors love patients who are well informed and health conscious.

I think the current pregnancy tests are 99.9% accurate - so I think you really are pregnant. I wonder if this strange feeling you have - that it's not real - is coming about because you are afraid? You say you lost a baby at 14wks gestation - that must have been very difficult to come to terms with - especially when you describe feeling very connected to that baby in a short time.

I have also had 2 miscarriages - and have just discovered I am pregnant again - I am quite anxious, and so afraid it won;t go OK again. I don't get morning sickness or anything - which everyone tells you is a sign of a 'healthy pregnancy' - so that worries me - but I have a healthy two year old - and didn't get it with that pregnancy either, so I try not to stress about it. I also got asked by the Dr to get a dating scan done - but felt hesitant to do so - I had a scan with the last baby (lost it at 10 wks) and it made it so much more real - and the loss so much harder....

I guess what I am trying to describe is that perhaps you are afraid to hope for this pregnancy, to hope that it will be fine etc. You are scared to accept it and let yourself 'attach' to another baby??

All I can do is try to think positively and be hopeful that this time it will all go smoothly - I am visualizing my big belly and the beautiful baby - and hoping hoping hoping.

Try to do the same. Try not to stress and try to be positive. I hope all goes well and that you have a wonderful pregnancy and beautiful baby very soon! Take care.

Thankyou for your answers. I have been pregnant before. I was 14 weeks pregnant but lost it. I knew i was pregnant then because i had an inner knowing that i was (mothers innstict maybe). I did feel pregnant because i had all the symptoms for it and i could just feel it thier.... it's like a sixth sence. I haven't got any of this, this time though..

I'm doing another test tonight but a diffrent one...

thankyou

im 16 and 3 months gone and i didnt feel pregnant at all and to a certain extent i still dont. The only way to know for certain is 4 ur doctor to carry out a test. However it is unlikely that the tests uve taken already were wrong. They search for the pregnancy hormone in your urine. Its NOT there if you arent pregnant so if youve taken 2 tests and they were both positive its fairly certain you are pregnant
