Should I apply for the job or sort out my health issues first?

Question - (8 July 2012) 2 Answers - (Newest, 9 July 2012)
A female United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I have had an abdominal scan recently which showed up a calcified cyst.

The doctors need to do a CT scan before they can determine what it is.

I've not been working since I had quite a big operation 2.5 years ago.

My husband (who is working) saw a job online which I could apply for and I am trying to get the confidence to apply for it.

Should I go for it or wait to see what the CT shows up?

Hi there. It would be very wise for you to sort out the problem with your health as a no. 1 priority.

So get that sorted out first, definitely.

The reason I say this, is you don't want to start a new job, and then find that within a short time, you then have to go into hospital for surgery and then some time off after that to recuperate.

And being a new job, you wouldn't want to be there a week or two, and then have to ask them to take time off soon after.

The employer would then be without someone there to do that job yet again!

They would also be wondering, if you would even be coming back at all!

Health is always of the utmost importance, so once you have your calcified cycst removed and any other problems resolved, then you will be able to concentrate on work duties without any distraction about health issues.

If you were to start a new job before your health issues were resolved, you would be worrying about it, and very distracted most of the time.

So then you wouldn't be able to work as well as you otherwise would.

And then you might lose that job.
