A reader, anonymous, writes (21 April 2005):

Most guys, especially the shy ones, would be very taken by a woman asking him out. As a guy, I recommend that you be honest, to the point, yet subtle and gentle-so as to not come off as easy. Tell him that you've thought about him a lot, and that you have feelings for him. Get together with him in a no pressure environment such as, the zoo, park, or some barbecue party and for now, ditch the clubs and bars. Good luck!!!

Bev Conolly agony auntOf course it's OK. I've always found most guys are both flattered and relieved when a woman asks them out.

The perception of "easy" - or not - would come AFTER the date, I suspect, and what the woman was, and was not, willing to do.

If you're interested, want to let a particular man know, and don't want to seem too over the top about it, I would just suggest that you enquire whether he's free to get together for something low key, like coffee or lunch. Save the raves and drinking sessions until you know him a bit better.

Hope I've helped.
