tux agony auntRecommended: Both for a variety of reasons, one being STD's and not all forms of protection are 100% effective.

If you accept those risks, then it is yours and her decision to go bareback.

For a little story, I once had an ex who was on the pill and I wanted to go bareback with her, but she didn't want me.. Long story short, in the end it was a blessing because I later found out she was sleeping with any Tom Dick or Harry that she knew. (a little overdramatization but you get the point)

Given that she is on the pill and had not ovulated yet, the chances of pregnancy is low, but not nil. See http://www.epigee.org/guide/rhythm.html to understand the rhythm method. You are both young, the last thing that she needs is an unplanned pregnancy and the last thing you need is to be paying child support for the next 18 years.

Next comes the STI discussion. The pill and rhythm method is not going to protect either of you from STIs. A condom is the only reliable method of protection.

Simple answer is bag it.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (10 February 2009):

The pill is very effective. If you are 100% sure that you are not going to get some STD, and pregnancy is your only worry, then you can use that as your only method of contraception. If on the other hand, you and this girl are new to each other or possibly have STD's, get that checked out before relying on the pill alone... you are awfully young to be a dad! I've used the pill alone for years and had no problem. But use your head about it.
