 Eh sounds like this lad is playing back and forward with you and your friend. I think you both should just tell him to sling his hook!
On the otherhand, you need to remind yourself of the good old saying that a guy never comes before a friend...if your friend still kinda likes this guy then you can't go there...put yourself in your friends shoes!
