A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I've just read the stats about HIV and I'm shocked as too how many people were diagnosed in 2012. I have a few questions..

1. How does a man get HIV off a woman? It seems there wouldn't be enough fluid exchanging.

2. How common is it to get it from giving a man oral sex?

3. Do they automatically test you for HIV at the STD clinic if you don't say other wise? I do vaguely remember it saying tick the box if you don't want to be tested for HIV, I didn't tick it.

Sageoldguy1465 agony auntViruses are interesting little creatures.... and they show up - and move about - in and to places when you least expect it.......

It never hurts to get one more test to confirm that you haven't incurred ANY STI....

P.S. If you donate blood, the Red Cross will check you (your donation) at no extra charge!!!

Good luck.... Stay safe....

A reader, anonymous, writes (21 November 2013):

1. The skin just below the glans under the foreskin is very thin and that's where most diseases like AIDS can get through. That only has to come in contact with the fluids to become infected.

2. Not as common as the vagina or anus but still a big risk. Especially if the woman has brushed her teeth which causes tiny tears in the gums.

3. No they don't. AIDS is not classed as STI and it can take months before it's in your system enough that it can be detected, that's why they want you to tick the box.

Honeypie agony auntYour best bet is to talk to your doctor about this. And to get tested + do not have unprotected sex with a guy until you are both tested and have come clean on 2 HIV tests.

The reason the number is so high is because people are more careless then ever with WHOM they sleep with.

Also because AIDS is no longer a death sentence - LOADS of HIV people do not disclose to the people they have sex with that they ARE positive.

A female reader, YouWish United States +, writes (21 November 2013):

YouWish agony auntYou think sexual fluids are the only way? What about anal fissures during anal sex, sweat, saliva, tiny rug burns from getting freaky on a 70's shag rug?

If there are fluids flying everywhere, guys are just as at risk as the ladies.
