A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello everyone!

:) I am 20 years old and started going on birth control about 6 months ago. This past Saturday was my last day on the pill not only because it was getting to the point of being $50 a month but also because we honesty don't feel for it be necessary with the other forms of protection we use. My question is, what and when should I expect the side effects of the pill to start and how long on average will it take before I get my period and things go back to normal? Since Saturday, I have not had any spotting or anything of the sort.

Thanks in advance ladies!

chigirl agony auntIt variates. There is no clear anwer on if you will even get side effects. You can get spotting, you can get heavy bleeding etc, or you might not experience any change. Everything should be out of your system within a few months though, perhaps up to 6 months.

What other contractives do you use? The only other effective contraception is condoms. There are cheaper birth control pills out on the market than ones to 50 dollars a month. Microgynon is the cheapest in my country, you could try and ask for that. It costs me around 14 dollars for three months.

Well everyones body has a minor different reaction to the pill and going of it. I don't think you will really experience much, although I can say that I had an extremely painful period when I got off the pill.

It's hard to say as you say you use other contraception as well to know what would really happen
