Hello,

I'm new to this site and just had one main question if you could help I would really love it.

Well to start I'm 16 years old. I weigh 130 About. I'm just under 5 ft. To me I'm am fat although my family and friends say I'm normal. Plus for obesity running on both sides of my family they say I'm tiny. However I want to be smaller. I have a muffin top that I have no clue how to get rid of. If I wear bigger pants I feel like a cow. I have done diets apon diets. I exercise every day for 30 mins - 1 hour somtimes longer if I get the time. I have recently started starving myself. I have lost about 10lbs which puts me at 120. My boyfriend and I haven't seen each other in 4 months and in 4 months will be our 1 year and we will get to see each other for the first time in 8 months. I really want to surprise him with a whole new me, a sexy body persa. Don't get me wrong I want to feel sexy for me too but you know not seeing him for 8 months I want to wow him. Any way my question is other than diets and exercising and starving your self how else can I lose weight. I don't want to starve myself but this is the first thing that has given me any results at all.

P.s. I always cheat on my starving days I have 10 grapes and I allow myself to have 1 glass of milk after school. So less than 300 caliors a day.

Please help in any way you can. THANKS A BUNCH!!

Hey Pomgirl,

The concoction I mentioned is really great.you don't have to starve yourself at all.you can eat anything that you eat normally. You just have to keep away from butter and cheese.

Starving yourself is definitely not a good option. It can affect your biological system in the long run.

Please take care and keep us posted.

MissUnique agony auntHey I was just reading back my post and I realised that I hadn't included the link, here it is:

http://www.armyfit.mod.uk/

Please stop starving yourself, it isn't healthy and wether or not you lose weight, you're damaging yourself and I swear you'll kick yourself for it later on in life. If you did that on my job or even in the training, you'd be bollocked and sent on the toughest training ever, so please stop!

Artistry agony auntHi there, Thanks for getting back to us with your intentions. Just want to tell you something else. If you are going to starve yourself, you might want to check with your gynocoligist, to see whether or not you could damage your reproductive organs, while you are starving yourself, and therby, not be able to conceive in the future, if you want to have children. Just a word to the wise. You don't know what you are doing to your body, if you starve yourself. You should know the ramifications before you stick to what is working, in terms of losing weight. You just might regret it. Take care.

Goodness Gracious! I hope I am not answering too late.

My friend tried this out.Didn't eat too much butter and cheese. This worked for her. Please do give it a try before you starve yourself

In the morning after brushing your teeth you need to take the following concoction on an empty stomach.

1 glass bearably hot water+

a few squeezes of lime juice(1 lime would be good)+

2 teaspoonfuls of honey.

Please do this religiously for a month.you would definitely see results. Please keep us posted.

Artistry agony auntHi there, First of all, let's start with looking in the mirror, and saying at least five times, "I Love myself". This is where it should begin, we are who we are, and you must love who and what you are, physically and otherwise. Once you make peace with yourself and realize that you are your own best friend, then we go on to the realistic improvements you want to make to your body. Please stop with the 300 calorie thing, when your boyfriend comes around, you will be sick as a dog and maybe in the hospital, won't that be great? You should try to eat a balanced diet, some of the other Aunts were giving you good advice and websites, eating healthy, balanced meals is the key. If you eat multiple times a day, small meals, that will help reduce your body weight. Chew your food into the consistancy of baby food, this is great for losing weight. Also, do not eat white bread, reduce your salt intake, and best of all build up to drinking eight glasses of water a day, put a little lemon juice in it for taste purposes. Riding a bicycle will also help take the pounds off. But you should start on the inside and help yourself feel good about you, a very necessary factor. By the way, not eating the white bread, low salt intake and drinking the 8 glasses of water a day, will take off about 8-10 pounds the first two weeks, then it will taper off, but you will continue to lose weight. You should remember, the balanced diet, which is essential in maintaining your health. You do not want to make yourself sick, as the others have mentioned, and try not to obsess over your weight. Most of our true friends like us for who we are, not what we look like physically. Take care of yourself. I would also suggest purchasing a good book on building self-esteem. Loving who you are is the beginning of a healthy outlook. Be very good to yourself.

A female reader, MissUnique United Kingdom +, writes (27 November 2008):

MissUnique agony auntOh my god.

STOP IT!!!!

Seriously, starving yourself isn't going to get yourself anywhere. It's the worst thing you can do and you will suprise your boyfriend when you two go out and you faint. How do you expect to get anywhere on the amount of calories you're on?

Eat properly, have some cereal and juice in the morning, a salad or a jacket potato or something for dinner, then a proper meal for tea. Then have snacks of fruit and nuts inbetween.

Keep going with the exercising, that sounds healthy, as long as you don't over-do it. And start running with a friend, get a pedometer or something and give yourself goals each day.

And ok I know this sounds stupid but here is a website for the army. Well, the pre-training plan. I'm in the army and this is the fitness plan you do before you go on your actual training. Like they say, there's fit, then there's army fit. This makes you go in leaps and bounds. I'm not saying you have to go joining the army or anything but this plan is an absolute guarantee. It starts you off easier, then moves on to a bit harder stuff and it explains where all the exercises will mainly work on, like your upper, core and lower. Please check it out but start eating!!!!!!!!

Eat properly and exercise, starving yourself on 10 grapes and a glass of milk seriously won't get you anywhere, except in an eating disorder clinic or hospital.

Good Luck!

A male reader, anonymous, writes (27 November 2008):

What do you mean by "excercise?"

I was taught a while back that in oder to loose weight, the exercise must be a heart-pumping, out-of-breath experience, like running, etc. Also, you must excercise for about an hour. The first 30 minutes is spent burning off excess glucose in the the blood, and the final 30 minutes is spent burning off fat. After that, the body practically stops and you are just wasting your time.

Otherwise, watch what you eat is a biggie. Avoid fried foods, anything with "partially hydrogenated XXXX oil", and anything with "high fructose corn syrup." That stuff will fatten you up easily.

A female reader, Reebe United Kingdom +, writes (27 November 2008):

Reebe agony auntYou can not go on like this! You can have up to 1800 calories a day and work out for 30 mins and still lose around 2lbs a week.

I have lost 5 stone (70 lbs) so I know how miserable you can feel when your not happy with yourself, and it was hard and took serveral months. You are over weight but the way you are doing it you are going to make yourself very ill, physically and mentally, and unable to work out or to have any kind of life.

If you email me I will give you some websites that are healthy ways to lose weight, give you advice on what a healthy weight is for you to be, with a calorie counter diary, and work out advice, and are full of people that will encourage you when you have had a bad day.

Remember your friends, boyfriend and family love you just as you are, and losing weight will not make you feel any differently ... so make sure your doing this for yourself.

I wish you luck :-)

A female reader, Miss Potter United Kingdom +, writes (27 November 2008):

Miss Potter agony auntHi,

I would suggest calorie counting, its really not that complicated. For the first month or so avoid all junk food, make yourself healthy sandwiches for school - wholemeal bread, chicken/turkey meat, veggies, no sauces, that kind of thing. Switch to sugar free drinks, drink plenty of water/tea if you are up north.

I was calorie counting myself once, lost 30 pounds in 2 months but I excercised A LOT too, about 5 times a week, and ate around 1200-1400 calories.

Once you get into a habit of knowing how much you actually consume you can occasionally treat yourself to meals out, but be very very careful. For example in mackies I only take salads, they now mark their food with nutritional info, and once you are used to eating around 1200-1600 kcal a day it really shocks you that just one burger with fries comes up to that amount!

Dont worry if the weight doesnt begin to shift straight away, when I was dieting, that was 3 years ago, i started loosing weight straight away. Whereas now, I am trying to loose 8 more pounds, it took a week and a half of dieting and exercising for my body to adjust and start loosing weight.

Eat frequently, I would say 5 times is about right. I used to have a breakfast (porridge or 2 crispbreads with cheese or yoghurt with fruits that kind of thing), then 2-3 hours later I would have a fruit, a biscuit and a cup of tea, then 4 hours later a proper lunch, a piece of meat (100g), vegetables and potatoes/rice/pasta. Then there was always a fruit couple of hours later and I would have something small like a crispbread with some cheese spread a couple of hours before I went to bed.

One important thing - keep your fat intake to a minimum, so I almost excluded all fried foods, used low fat spreads and cheeses, low mayo and sauces. I used to bake or boil my food, or "fry" without oil - with water and sometimes a tea spoon of oil.

Be careful with all sauces as they are quite colorific, I would say that mustard, brown sauce and horseradish are all quite ok - around 100kcal per 100 grams, where as full fat mayo is around 500, ketchup can be around 250.

Avoid ready made foods. At least in the beginning. First you have to get used to counting calories and roughly know how much you are consuming and get into a habit of looking at labels.

I am not a big fan of weight watchers or other programs, I think loosing weight is doable on your own, but their food is usefull as they labelling is good and they make cakes in small portions as well so its easy to know how much you are consuming.

I dont really believe in any kind of diet, calorie counting worked for me and it would work for anyone as this is rather simple - you have to eat as many calories as you burn, an average person burns (woman, 20-40 years) around 1800-2000 (without exercise), so to loose weight you will have to eat less than what you spend, or spend more than what you eat.

The thing I loved the most about my smart diet was that I could eat anything I wanted, if I wanted a chocolate bar, I would have one, but I knew that I would have to sacrifice something for it, so I either had only a small piece, or if I had the full bar, I would excercise a bit more. It makes you appreciate food that you eat more.

Good luck!

A female reader, littlemomma United States +, writes (27 November 2008):

littlemomma agony auntHey, starving yourself is like the worst thing to do. Yes it does loose weight fast, but it can soon cause a lot of health problems which is something not worth the starvation for.

What I found that has worked so far for me (since I had my daughter 6 months ago) is eating 1 actual meal a day. Then kinda sorta munching through out the day. Eat a little bit of something everytime your tummy growls or you feel hungry. 'cause then your body has something to burn off instead of it's self. Plus the biggest problem a lot of people have is not knowing when they are full. Doing this will slowly cause you to know your body and know how much you need to be full but not overly stuffed. Eventually your one meal (normally dinner or breakfast) will get smaller until it is the right size for what your body needs. Dont worry about how much you drink 'cause you need to keep your body hydrated. Try to avoid juice though 'cause it has a lot of sugar in it.

Other than that i dont really know what to tell ya.

Best of luck!
