Question - (28 June 2009) 1 Answers - (Newest, 28 June 2009)
A female Canada age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm writing this because I am stressed, and I need some reassurance. So my last period was around April 18th. It is now almost July, and I still don't have a period. I've dealth with a lot of different things since my last period. My first stressor woud have been exams. Second was moving out of residence and back home. I realise that the people you are around affect your menstrual cycle, but I am aware that it shouldn't throw it off by two months! But with moving also comes a change in diet... My first mission moving home was to find a job, which was unsuccessful. Moreover, my mom had moved back to my family's second home on the other side of the country with my dad, leaving me alone in a house for a month before deciding to move out here with them! During the month of May, my sleeping pattern changed drastically. I found myself so paranoid at night by myself that I wouldn't be able to get to sleep until five in the morning! Also, having my parents gone kind of left me to fend for myself when it came to food... meaning I didn't have the best diet at the time. I also developed an ear infection and was forced to go on antibiotics for about two weeks. About a week into June, being lonely and unable to find a job, I decided to move in with my parents. I've been here for almost a month. It is a different time zone so my sleeping patter has changed again. Also, I find that I am doing more physical activity now that I am here, and my diet is also much different then when I was at home... I was hoping that by improving my diet and increasing my physical activity I would get my period back on track... but I am sadly still anxiously waiting!

I know life changes can affect a period... But should they really change it this much?

I was also hoping that I could get some advice on how to get my menstrual cycle back on track.

Also if I should be concerned/should go speak to a doctor.

I am aware that Birth Control helps to regulate a woman's mentrual cycle, but I really would prefer a more natural method of getting myself back on track!

Thank you for your help!

A male reader, LazyGuy Netherlands +, writes (28 June 2009):

LazyGuy agony auntYes, your period can REALLY be affected this much. In fact, it can stop completly under the wrong circumstances.

While you can control the cycle with the pill you can't make it happen. Your body under stress/disease/mallnutrition just decides that it got better things to do right now then to get pregnant. It is conserving energy for survival. Reproduction can start again when survival has been ensured.

However, as always with medical questions, these problems should REALLY be discussed with a doctor. There might be more serious causes. Things a doctor should check out. So you will be making an appointment on monday right?
