Okay I have been in your situations. My period started on my 14th year and I was regular until I turn 17th and my period stops for the whole year. It's not common but sometimes it's hereditary. But I wouldn't wait around for your period to return if I were you, don't be embarras to tell your folks that you're having female problem so that you'll be taking care of. Like everyone's say talk to the doctor but not just any doctor make sure he or she is especialized in gynecology.

Hi,

I can't answer this question for you, but I just wanted to suggest that you do NOT go on birth control. Sometimes people suggest this to "regulate" your cycles but that would not actually solve the underlying issue, if there is one!!!!

If you are not having periods, you are not ovulating. This may just be because you're young (the first few years after you start menstruating can be unpredictable), but it could also be indicative of another issue, like a thyroid problem (which I have), PCOS, etc. I would tell your mom and your doctor so you can test your hormone levels and make sure nothing's out of whack :)

Odds are that everything is going to be fine!! And if you are very thin, or exercise too much, or don't get enough sleep, those are things you should work on, too :)

I had the same thing when I was 14 years old (started my periods at age 12). Mine stopped for a few months (not sure how many, we're talking 18 years ago!). I went to the doctors (always worth going ) and they couldn't find the reason why. Anyhow they ended up coming back eventually and I never found out the reason why they stopped.

Could be part of growing up and your body adapting to change, but yeah you may aswell go see a doctor to put your mind at rest. Bit it's probably nothing, but you don't know for sure til you go :-)

Hi

How many periods have you missed? It's not unusual to skip the occasional or one two when you're young (mine were all over the place until I was 30) but if you've missed three or more, it's time to see a doctor. especially if your periods have usually been regular since you started them.

Lots of things can cause them to "dry up" for a short spell

Weight loss is a common reason so if you think you've lost weight or have been trying to diet, this could be the reason. Weight loss shuold be investigated by a doctor if it's caused your periods to stop.

Lack of certain nutrients in the diet can also be a cause, iron especially. Have you changed your diet recently e.g dieting or becoming vegetarian/vegan or are you fasting (it's Ramadan). If this is the cause then you really need to see a doctor so that you know how to adapt your current diet.

Stress can cause periods to stop so you've been busy with the end of the school year or stressed out with exams, that could explain it. Even worrying about what's happened to your period can be enough.

But miss 3 or more periods and it's time to see the Doc.

Tell your Mum and ask her to arrange one for you. Don't be embarrassed - after all it's not your fault.

eyeswideopen agony auntHave you had a significant weight loss recently? If you are a die hard runner that could be a factor. Your best bet would be to talk to your doctor, ask your parent to make you an appointment. What does your Mom or Dad say about this? You have talked to them, right?
