reader, anonymous, writes (2 July 2006): speaking from a females point of view, yes it could be normal. specially if she is younger or under alot of stress. dont panic. i had those issues when i was younger, and even missed some periods all together. a doctor could easily help.

 It could be nothing to worry about, but she ought to see a doctor for a blood test to check her hormone levels. Early miscarriage is sometimes mistaken for a period. Some medical conditions cause irregular bleeding that can be mistaken for a period. Sometimes women bleed irregularly because of hormone imbalance - hence the need for a blood test. Try not to worry as it is not that unusual...but she needs to see a doctor all the same.
