Theres a common perception that dope is 'okay' but it can cause schziophrenia amongst other mental illnesses.Anyone who will 'hate' you for stopping smoking is narrow minded and senseless. They arent worth hanging around with. Your friend is probably bluffing, even if they arent, whats the worse that can happen, a few people think you have slept around?
Your health is more important than what a few people think about you.
If you need futher guidance, there are plenty of support groups and chatlines.

 If you're talking about smoking pot, it doesn't make you lose that much control, or lose control of your behaviour. Alcohol is much more effective in that department...
Moderation is the key: smoking a small amount is harmless fun, just don't get into the habit of smoking lots of it all the time, or you'll end up becoming a 'stoner'.... meaning you have the short term memory of a golfish and no motivation to do anything. If you're there already, the good news is that there's no long term effects, so just cut down and you'll find things start returning to normal.
As for your friend... what kind of friend would say stuff like that? She doesn't sound like much of a friend to me!

reader, anonymous, writes (18 June 2008): This is going to sound ridiculous and stupid, but it really is true:Not everyone will hate you if you quit drugs.It sounds like your friends are dragging you down. Drugs are supposed to be fun...if they're making you feel like this, then there's not any good there at all. Ditch the drugs, ditch the 'friends' who are pushing you to do the drugs, and find some people who like you for who you are, not what you smoke.
