 Anal hurts if it is done improperly or too fast. You have to be ready for it. Go slow, use fingers or small toys to work your way up to it. There is lube out there made specifically for anal. I recommend the use of that. I personally love anal but only when it is done right. I have had it hurt like heck but I have had vaginal hurt too.
It can also be messy sometimes....so make sure you are with someone that it won't embarrass you totally if it happens to come out a little differently.

Make sure you start with smaller things like fingers (yours or his!) then a small vibrator and finally, with his cock- Thats what I have done in the past.  It does hurt, but it don't have to hurt soooo bad. Just relax yourself and it should be fine. Tensing up makes it harder for both of you to enjoy it. Definitely use A LOT of lube and if it hurts too bad, just don't do it. It's not for everyone...
