A female reader, 88jane United Kingdom +, writes (30 August 2007):

88jane agony auntfirst things first, your problem is not lame and nobody here thinks you are lame!!

have you had any professional support such as counselling for your depression and eating problems? i think this would be the most beneficial action for you to take.

You say you have been screwed around a few times...what do you mean by this!? i understand if you dont want to announce this to the world so feel free to email me if you want to chat about this further as this may be something that you need to chat about with someone.

i have also suffered from a lack of confidence and this is not through any disorders ive had or anything i just naturally dont have any self esteem or self confidence! the way i got through this was through going on a special confidence building course arranged through the school...could you find out if there is anything like this in your area? i know that having no confidence will make you not want to go and believe me...i didnt want to go but my mum made me!! and its the best thing that has happened to me! also, to get confidence you should do something each day that pushes you out of your comfort zone! scary thought i know but its soooo beneficial!!

now you need to think about what you are good at.....there has to be something which you think..yeh im quite good at that! are you clever, can you play an instrument, do you have any talents?? pick one thing that you are good at....that is the start of feeling good about yourself! once you can identify something you are good at, you will be able to start building your confidence! and you are not ugly, im aware that i dont know what you look like but im sure you have something very attractive about you...nice eyes, nice smile ....everyone is beautiful in their own way! and since when has beauty been the be all and end all?! beauty is on the inside and this will begin to show once you start to feel good about yourself!!

do you have a good relationship with your family....maybe there is someone you can talk to!!

and just to let you know---ther are times when everyone feels ugly and unwanted! you are not alone!! chin up sweetheart!!

if you want to email me then please do i would really like to help you!!!!!

take care darling

jezz agony auntfirst of all i have been through the same thing and i have to admit it does get you down. what i did was i went to councelling (you dont have to) but it does help. nobody is ugly and your definately not unwanted. At least you have stood up and asked for help, even that shows that you do have the strength to fight this.

hope this helps good luck x
