A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *iobhanKay_x writes:

hey, I'm female and 5" 4. I recently had a still birth. After the loss of Dillian I weighed 14.6 stone (202 lbs). In the last month I've lost 3.7 stone and now weigh 10.9 stone (149 lbs). I've often made myself purge after eating and do a lot of exercise. I force myself to go days without eating but I can't stop. I'm always so tempted by food so why can't I stop eating?

I do running, swimming, gym and bike riding but I don't seem to look any thinner? The scales say I've lost weight but the mirror says otherwise! to be honest it looks like I've put on weight!

My boyfriend thinks I have an eating disorder. When I was 12 I was frequently raped and when I was 13 my mother died. He went to the doctors about em and the doctor said traumatic pasts like death, rape divorce can cause eating disorders. I know I don't have an eating disorder.. I just wish I wouldn't eat so much. I think there's something wrong with me as I can't stop eating. My periods are all over the place, I've had 2 in the last 2 weeks. Why can't I stop eating? How can Ii make myself less hungry? Is it true that if you throw your food up it only takes away half of the calories?

many thanks Siobhan Kay

A male reader, anonymous, writes (2 December 2008):

Your body needs food to survive.

Simple as that.

The key is finding a balance of foods wih fat content and foods without (or with less) fat content.

You can;t just cut out a part of your diet. You can cut down on fats, but they are just as essential as vegetables.

Its all bout moderation and portion size.

Eat six smaller meals a day rather then three large ones. Have a good hearty breakfast (this is where you will need most of your food for the day).

The reason for having six smaller ones is to get your body used to having smaller portions constantly in your stomach so it doesn't feel the need to store everything you eat as fat if it can.

Because if you have no regularity your body will retain any fat it can because it doesn't have any idea when it will next be fed, so it stores as much fat as it can muster so it can live as fat stores the body's energy.

Go for nice walk daily, 20-30 mins should do it, I prefere evenings to mornings, but that is personal preference. This will burn plenty of energy and with a balanced diet and smaller portions that weight will drop off and your body will tone up and you will be fit-looking without being boney enough to bare a striking resemblance to THE ABOMINATION from 'The Hulk'.

A female reader, thatgothgirl20 United States +, writes (2 December 2008):

thatgothgirl20 agony auntYou are in denial, and the reason why you are eating so much is because you keep throwing it back up, and making yourself hungry.

Your husband loves you, but it sounds like you don't love yourself.

One of my instructors is always saying that people don't want to take the time to lose weight. It took more than a week to gain the weight they gained, but they want to lose it in less than a week! This is not healthy, and it is unrealistic.

There is a woman on myspace who was anorexic for some time, and finally her body gave up on her, even when she had decided to stop and eat again. She is still going to eventually die.

You may have lots of guilt on you from your past, even though what happened to you was not your fault, and you torture yourself by not eating, and when you do eat, you probably end up feeling guilty.

Set up a support system. Get treatment and bring your bf with you.

Sorry about what happened to you.

Best wishes,

Amanda

A female reader, katatonik United States +, writes (2 December 2008):

katatonik agony auntYour boyfriend is right. Throwing up after eating is a medical condition known as bulimia and it can be very, very damaging to your health. Do you want holes or tears in your esophagus from throwing up all the time? How about ulcers, or an irregular heart rhythm from electrolyte imbalance in your body? This can KILL you, by the way. Is being a few pounds thinner worth your life to you? I hope not. Please see a doctor about this as soon as possible and tell them what you have told us so that they can refer you to an appropriate treatment plan. PLEASE.
