duskyrowe agony auntInternet dating is only safe if you follow the correct guidelines.

1. Tell your parents or close friend about your intentions about dating a guy off the net.

2. Chat via email or msn a good few weeks or months, so you can build up a trust with a guy.

3. Make sure their picture of themselves are genuine, get them to send a photo by email or phone.

4. Meet them in a busy public place, which is has an easy escape route if things go pear shaped.

5. Take a friend along to keep an eye on you.

6. Tell your parents where you are going, and call them as soon as you get to your destination.

7. If there are any suspicions, then block the guy from emailing you, never give out your phone number unless you are 100% sure about the person.

8. Never and I REPEAT never go back to their place or hotel room.

Apart from all what I have advised you. Happy Dating :D

Yuna~ agony auntI agree with you the old school parents thinks dating on internet is dangerous. All they hear is young girls get hurt when they decide to meet the guy they met online. I think it depends how mature you are too. I agree there are bad people out there online or if you meet them in real life. Just becareful and make sure the guy you're talking to is not some bad guy.

I've personally tried internet dating and ended up very happy with my boyfriend of 3 years. I met him when I was 22. I always wanted a boyfriend who's good at communicating thru words. This shows they're educated and real. I've also met a couple of guys online that I never met in real life. I had a good time discussing our similar interest. It's a different kind of friendship. Indeed, we're still friends.

So yes, I think internet dating is a fine things to do as long as you're looking for that perfect guy and not just playing around. Just remember it's up to you how much information you give to the other person. It's up to you to agree to meet.

Good luck.

hlskitten agony auntHi

Nah not these days. Much of the stigma attached comes from people that have never had or dont use the net much. I think a fair few of the guys that dont use the net think girls online are easy, my 25 yr old brother being on of them! And even though he's a whiz on pc's he doesn't actually or hasn't ever, used them for socialising. So i think its more an ignorance thing.

Gotta be honest, if my 13 yr old said he was meeting someone off the net in say, 3 yrs time, i wouldn't bat an eyelid. If my 12 yr old daughter said she was in 4 yrs time, i would worry sick! But only for the safety side of it. I dont actually believe deep down though, that people on dating sites are any different to people you meet in a pub/club or in a lonely hearts column in a local paper. Its possible that they just dont go out as much, and thats not a bad thing. Espeially when you get to my age, we dont really want to meet the kind of guys that frequent pubs and nightclubs. No offence meant to anyone by that by the way.
